We started off our last week by exploring the castles of Lough Erne (Monea and Tully)! We learned about their history and were able to climb around and explore one of them. In the afternoon, we continued on to Cavan Burren Forest Park, where we saw megalithic tombs, learned about geology and the legend of the Giant’s Leap, and took a scenic walk among the flowers. Tuesday began our last trip, the student-led one to Galway! On the way, we stopped in the town of Cong, where we climbed trees, walked through the forest, and ate lunch in town. We also stopped at Ross Friary, which was super cool and fun to explore! It’s much bigger and in better shape than other ruins and ancient churches we’d been to. On Wednesday, we took a day trip to Inishmore, one of the Aran Islands (famous for their wool). We biked around, saw a prehistoric fort on sea cliffs, watched otters, and, of course, looked in the sweater shops! We did a scavenger hunt at the Galway City Museum on Thursday and learned about Irish history and ancient Gaelic culture. Then we went to an Irish dance class! The teacher, a Riverdance performer, taught us routines in three different styles. It was so much fun. We spent the rest of the day shopping, walking around the city, eating ice cream, and going to pubs. Galway is such a great city! After getting COVID tests on Friday, we had some free time to explore East Sligo, and we spent the night hanging out at our favorite pub one last time. Our last day, we wrote reviews, packed, and went out to lunch. It’s sad to be leaving such a fun program, but we’ve made friends and memories that will last a lifetime. Thanks for reading the blog!
